Our Afternoon Offers

Gymnasium Rahlstedt offers optional, free after-school care for grades 5-8 on all five school days until 4 pm (or optionally until 3 pm). It takes place after classes in the school premises of GyRa. This makes the school a learning and living space where participants in after-school care feel comfortable and can discover, demonstrate, and expand their individual strengths outside of lessons. In addition, students can develop group awareness and social learning.

The care is divided into three areas, which we would like to introduce to you in the following:

Three photos side by side: left a group of children working at tables, with the heading

From these offerings, the children assemble their individual weekly schedule. At the start of a semester they choose which days of the week which activities should be used. Of course you do not have to “book” the entire week. Decide together with your child.

You can find the current offerings here.

All students have – regardless of participation in the after-school programs – the opportunity to have a warm lunch in our cafeteria. More information can be found in the “Service > Mensa” section.

Homework Support

As part of the after-school program, homework help should give students the opportunity to complete their tasks in a calm atmosphere. It should be used to do homework, to study for tests, to prepare for tests, vocabulary tests, etc., and to tackle other tasks. There is also a pool of differentiated working materials from various subjects, so that even with a small amount of homework, the learning time can be used effectively in terms of individual support.

The study groups are divided by year level and are supervised – depending on the number of participants – by two part-time staff. The resulting small groups allow your child to receive individual guidance and to work in a quiet, learning-friendly environment.

A child sits at a table and writes in a workbook. They wear a black sports outfit with white stripes. On the table lie additional books and materials. In the background are other students who are also studying. Two female students sit at a table and write in their notebooks. On the table there are various school materials, including books and a notebook. One student has long hair and wears a gray sweater, while the other wears dark clothing. In the background there are more students. A classroom with several students sitting and working at tables. Some students stand and interact with each other while others focus on books or notebooks. In the background there are colorful wall decorations and windows letting in daylight.

AG Offerings

Every day, our after-school team offers a diverse AG program. The program is continuously revised, so there is always variety. Throughout the week there are about 20 AG options to choose from. The program covers the following areas:

Background with abstract pink color structure and the text The image shows a row of acoustic guitars lined up in a room. In the foreground is a graphical element with the text Various sport balls and shoes on green grass, over which there is text A stack of books with an open book on top, on a light blue background. In the middle of the image is the text Four children sitting together at a table in a room with computers in the background. Each of them holds a technological device in hand. Above the image is the text

At the beginning of a school year, all AGs present themselves in a kind of “fair” so that students can inform themselves exactly about what to expect. In the first three weeks of the school year, you can “dip into” various AGs before officially signing up for a semester.

In the current school year, for example, the following AGs exist:

Colored brush strokes in red and yellow representing the flag of Spain, with the text Two table tennis paddles with red coverings and a table tennis ball on a blue table, with the text A red fabric piece lies on a table, surrounded by a measuring tape and color swatches. The text A blue handball with orange dots lies in front of a goal net. Below is the text A camera lens with colorful reflections inside, with the word Cover image of the school newspaper
