There is nothing good, except: One must do it.
E. Kästner
– so the motto of the voluntary social internship, which has been available at our school for thirteen years now, and for which in September 2018 we even received the Special Prize of the Budnianer-Hilfe.
Most tenth-grade students participate in this offering, for it seems to have spread: Not only do the seniors benefit from our cooperation with Martha House. For the young people, there is much more to gain here than just an internship certificate!
On at least three afternoons in the school year the learners accompany older people in their daily lives. They help during coffee breaks, play board games, read aloud, dance, bake and sing together, or simply have conversations with each other.
Besides the sense of gaining a professional insight and doing something very meaningful, our students often also realize during the internship how enriching the exchange between generations can be and how valuable the insight one gains into a initially often completely unfamiliar area of life is.
We are very pleased that again this year more than 40 students are helping with much joy and commitment to keep the beautiful tradition of the social internship at our school alive.
