The Theatre subject is aimed at all students who want to tackle small and large acting tasks with dramatic imagination. In addition to the joy of playing, cooperation in the group is at the center.

At Gymnasium Rahlstedt, courses are offered from year 5 up to the upper secondary level in which students gain their first dramatic experiences in the school's experimental field. Thematic content is oriented to the actors' life world. Through creative engagement with dramatic templates and own texts, literature and language become tangible.

The course work builds progressively on previous work and currently begins in year 5 with initial dramatic experiments. The focus is on expanding the performers' perception and repertoire of expression. Therefore a warm-up is scheduled before the dramatic work. Years 8, 9 and 10 engage more with literary templates. The students incorporate the classical means of stage design (acting, shadow play, puppet theater) as well as the new media forms (film/video).

Theatre work is committed project work, ending in a performance. For this, continuous participation is also necessary in the additional rehearsals (weekend rehearsals). A joint visit to an interesting theatre production on Hamburg stages rounds off the course work.
