MUNOH ’26 – GyRa goes international once again!

Red upholstered seats, a grand theatre atmosphere and hundreds of smartly dressed pupils ready for five days of international diplomacy: this year’s MUNOH (Model United Nations of Hamburg) started in style with its Opening Ceremony at the festive Winterhuder Fährhaus theatre. There was only one conclusion to draw: Gymnasium Rahlstedt was taking part in MUNOH once again!

And MUNOH ’26 was truly international. Almost 200 students, accompanied by around 20 teachers, came together in Hamburg, with participating schools not only from Germany but from countries across the world – this year even including a school from Ghana. For five days, students debated current global issues in English and worked together to find solutions.

As in previous years, Gymnasium Rahlstedt was strongly represented. Our delegates represented different nations and defended their countries’ interests through speeches, negotiations and resolutions.

But GyRa’s contribution went well beyond sending delegates. We were especially proud to provide seven chairs from our S3, who brought their MUN experience to the conference. There was also another first for GyRa: for the first time, a student from our 8th grade joined the delegation. As one of the youngest participants at the entire conference, she did a fantastic job debating complex international issues in English alongside much older students.

MUN, however, is not only about serious debates, resolutions and points of order. A major part of the conference is meeting people from other schools, cities and countries. Committee activities and social events – like the MUN Party at Fundbureau on Friday – provided opportunities to get to form new friendships.

And this year, our newcomers had particular reason to celebrate. Four (!) members of our S1 delegation received a Best First-Timer Award – an outstanding result and a fantastic start to their MUN careers. Congratulations to:

Best First-Timer Awards (S1):
• Mathilda Schiemann, Ghana, Children’s Rights Committee
• Emilia Mink, Brazil, Third Committee
• Fronzibell Ofosu Agyakwa, Iran, Women’s Rights Commission
• Laura Rethorn, Sudan, Commission on the African Union

Best Delegate Awards (S3):
• Polina Deuschewa, France, Best Delegate in Women’s Rights Commission

• Bastian Schmidt, France, Most Distinguished Delegate in Security Council

After five exciting and demanding days, the Closing Ceremony marked the end of MUNOH ’26. Our delegates returned to Rahlstedt tired but happy – with plenty of new experiences, memories and friendships.

A big THANK YOU goes to Gymnasium Meiendorf as organisers of MUNOH ’26, which once again brought the international MUN community together in Hamburg.

MUNOH ’26 – we did it again. See you next year!
