Once upon a time there was a wonderful booted cat with a fairy-tale aura, whose letters vanish from the old stories when read aloud. The book is empty – the children no longer want to read dusty stories. For the fairy-tale characters in the magic forest this means a concrete loss of meaning. Because if they are not read, they gradually disappear…
In the performance of S4 under the direction of Antje Kirchbauer, fresh and playful fairy-tale characters meet and effortlessly carry us into the world of childhood, where magical things were still possible. Sleeping Beauty, the Frog King, Jack in Luck, a cool and burping band of dwarfs, and of course the evil witch in a sexy outfit are now trying to secure the unstable situation. Meanwhile, Frau Holle is shaking out the beds in the atrium of the Rahlstedt Gymnasium.
The play “Fairy Tales in Peril” by Jenny Wölk thematizes this primal longing for harmony and a positive outcome. It deals with true values such as solidarity as well as their betrayal – as in the classic fairy tale all characters must endure an odyssey and overcome harsh dangers, descend into dusty and damp cellars, and fight for the future of the fairy-tale forest. “Should we risk it?” asks the Frog King to the audience.
Sure – it’s simply fun to be there and watch how the young actors search for themselves, mix magical elixirs, talk to donkey dung, and ultimately defeat the evil. The children are reading again, the world has become a little healthier – thanks to fairy tales. If that isn’t enough, the bread also has therapeutic appointments available.
Sometimes, however, a beautiful theater evening helps as well – the second performance will take place on Thursday, 3.4.25, at 6:00 PM in the Atrium.
