Conversations about policy programs on the schoolyard? Political discussions at the dining table at home? The upper school room becomes a polling station? All clear signs of the "Junior election", which took place again at GyRa on February 20, 2025. All students of grades 9-12 could cast their votes in the Bundestag election – just as nationwide more than 2 million eligible voters at 7,100 schools!

The two crosses were the highlight within a teaching unit on the Bundestag and state elections. Earlier, in the PGW class, the students could get to know the parties and election programs and become competent and informed voters. In the coming days, the election results will be analyzed.

Junior elections demonstrably also lead to higher turnout in the "real elections," both among the youth and their parents. Going to the ballot box becomes a matter of course.

We sincerely thank everyone who helped with the preparation and execution and thereby made the "Junior election" possible, especially the 10th-grade students who volunteered in the election helper team during and after the election!
