In September 2025, 21 Hamburger students began the Music Coach training conceived by the Bundesverband Musikunterricht and conducted by the Landesmusikrat. The Musik-Coach Hamburg project strengthens music education in schools and opens new paths for young people to take responsibility in cultural practice. It offers the opportunity to develop musically and pedagogically. Ensembles are led, creative projects are developed, and new perspectives in the world of music are discovered. The contents included, among others, music theory, arranging, ensemble leadership, rehearsal methodology, digital music processing, dance choreographies, presence, personality, copyright, and career orientation.
I, Miriam Sahliger (S4), had successfully applied and was allowed to experience this diverse, well-founded training. It gave me a lot of joy, but it was also very demanding at times. The intensive weekends run from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. The time for homework or studying has to be well organized.
After a successful round in the form of four intensive weekends, we, the new Musik-Coaches, presented on 22.02.2026 at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater (Jazz Hall) what we had learned in the training. The event consisted of musical contributions up to insights into school projects. I presented the upper school band project, the song “At Last” by Etta James. Special thanks go to Mr. Lahann, who supported the project at all times.
A unique highlight was the ceremonial handing over of the certificates by School Senator Ksenija Bekeris.
The next cohort of the Musik Coach training is planned to start in September 2026.
Information can be obtained at: LMR-HH.DE/MUSIK-COACH-Hamburg/.
Prerequisites are an age between 15 and 19 years, as well as support from a music teacher or ensemble leadership; this can also, for example, be via the Jugendmusikschule.
