Vamos a España was the motto once during the middle-school Spanish course, and thus the students of Spanish class 9 set off for Barcelona to get to know the capital of Catalonia and put their Spanish into practice.

From our base in Calella, about 60 kilometers from Barcelona, a coastal town with a beautiful sandy beach and a charming town center, we explored Barcelona for two days.

On the program were the Gothic Quarter, the old town with the impressive cathedral and the Museum of the History of Barcelona, which took us into the city beneath the city and 1500 years into the past. A break in Parc de la Ciutadella with its beautiful fountain provided some relaxation.

The second day of exploration was all about Antoni Gaudí, the architect who gave the cityscape of Barcelona its own very personal and colorful touch with the Sagrada Família, the Parc Güell and other buildings, and continues to fascinate 100 years later. From Montjuïc, the hill of Barcelona, we also had a great view of the whole city.

In Calella everyone had time to recover from the sightseeing and together we put our Spanish to use while eating tapas in a typical Spanish bar. ¡Qué rico!

Conclusion after 5 days: pure enthusiasm and longing to return to Barcelona.
